ICSI Switch Configuration

The ICSI uses a LattisCell ATM Switch Model 10114-SM ATM Switch shown in the picture below. Currently nine ATM Workstations are connected to the Switch. The workstation to port mapping can be found in the ICSI Host Configuration Table. Additionally port 15 is connected to Pacific Bell. All the other ports are currently unused.

Synoptics LatisCell Switch Model 10114-SM

The driver for the SynOptics switch runs on icsib23. This machine is connected to the switch via ethernet. The management software runs on icsib8, it is installed in the /usr/lnms/bin. To set up all BAGNet and local MAY connections the setup_pvc_calls script can be used. This script sets up all PVCs defined in the setup_pvc_calls.cmds file. To setup or drop a connection these Configuration Scripts can be used, otherwise it has to be done by hand performing the following steps:

  1. rlogin icsib8
Login at the switch management station.
  2. cd /usr/lnms/bin
    Change directory.
  3. lcell_pvcbatch -b /dev/tty -i 128.32.201.58
    Start connection management commandline tool.
  4. OC PP VC 000081074DBA:00 9 0 800 000081074DBA:00 15 0 273 UBR 3.0 2.0
This is an example of an open call command. This command opens (OC=open call) a point to point (PP) virtual channel (VC) between switch 000081074DBA:00 port 9 vpi 0 vci 800 and switch 000081074DBA:00 port 15 vpi 0 vci 15 with the Quality of Service Unspecified Bitrate (UBR) and 3 Mbit/s peak and 2 Mbit/s sustationable bitrate. This command can also be used to drop connections (DC), add (AE) and drop (DE) endoints of a point to multipoint connection (MP). For detailed information look at the lcell_pvcbatch manual page.
  5. repeat step 4 until all pvcs are set up or dropped
  6. cntl-c
    to end configuration
